OK! I am a noob at this!
I am running XP Pro 32-bit. I want to replace the Video Card. Nothing great or expensive...just a decent one. It for a friend (senior, that is why XP). I just got him a Dell Vostro 200 slim, added a 1TB HD and installed all drivers and XP. Please let me know 3 things:
1. Does ddr2 or ddr3 matter on the video card..is one better to run on XP
2. 64-bit or 32-bit. I assume 64 will run on 32-bit XP
3. Any suggestions on the card or where to buy (PCI Express 2.0X16)
Thanks! Ynot

Can We Use Ddr2 Ram In Ddr3 Slot

  1. Im having a Intel core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz,mercury PIG31U ddr2 motherboard, 4Gb RAM and a nvidia geforce 210 512 mb.I planing to upgrade my graphics.Changing my motherboard to a new one doesn't come under my budget. So i am planin to change the GPU alone. Some say u can slot in a ddr3 graphics card into a ddr2 motherboard.Suggest me guys!!!! Thanks in advance.
  2. DDR2 and DDR3 are not only different in what they are, but they are electrically different, you can't use products that aren't designed to be electrically compatible with each other. Even if you did somehow force a DDR3 module into a DDR2 slot, you'd probably blow the RAM, and, well, the system board too.

It will not work. DDR2 and DDR3 are electrically incompatible. Not to mention while they both are 240 pin connectors the key slots are in different places so the memory will not physically fit either.
